Waymo Expands Electric Robotaxi Service to Nashville

Waymo's electric robotaxi service has officially launched in Nashville, Tennessee, expanding its reach into yet another major U.S. city. The service is now available for the public, who can download the Waymo app to request rides. The rollout will occur on a rolling basis, allowing some users to catch rides immediately while others may need to wait.
The initial service area covers 60 square miles, encompassing some of Nashville's most iconic locations, including the honky tonks of Broadway, the boutiques of 12 South, the vibrant Midtown area, and the foodie scene in East Nashville. Waymo is also conducting tests at Nashville International Airport, with plans to provide service to travelers there in the near future.
Grace Sutherland Smith, Executive Director of AgeWell Middle Tennessee, highlighted the importance of this service for older adults, stating, "Waymo is an opportunity for older adults to embrace new technology and new ways of getting around. It's so important as we grow older to stay connected to the community, and transportation is key to that." She emphasized that the advance booking feature could significantly ease the burden on family caregivers who often need to transport loved ones to appointments.
Tekedra Mawakana, co-CEO of Waymo, expressed enthusiasm about the launch, noting, "Nashville is buzzing with music, tourism, and nightlife, and now Waymo helps connect it all. As Nashville continues to grow, Waymo is proud to support that momentum by providing a safe, reliable, and magical way for locals and visitors to experience everything the city has to offer."
In Nashville, users will have the option to access Waymo's services through both its dedicated app and the Lyft platform later this year. Waymo has partnered with Lyft to manage its fleet in Nashville via Flexdrive, further integrating its services into the existing transportation ecosystem.
This launch in Nashville is part of Waymo’s broader strategy of expanding its electric robotaxi services across various cities in the United States. The company has been steadily entering new markets, positioning itself as a leader in autonomous vehicle technology and electric transportation solutions. With the introduction of its services in Nashville, Waymo aims to enhance mobility options for residents and tourists, while also contributing to the city’s growth and vibrancy.
