Electric Urban Car Family Unveiled at Paris Motor Show: A New Era for Affordable Mobility

The Paris Motor Show has witnessed the successful market launch of the Electric Urban Car Family (EUCF), featuring four new electric models: the CUPRA Raval, Volkswagen ID. Polo, Škoda Epiq, and Volkswagen ID. Cross. This marks the first time these vehicles have been presented together, highlighting a collaborative effort among the brands under the Volkswagen Group umbrella to make electric mobility more accessible to a broader customer base.
With almost 150,000 orders already placed, the EUCF represents a significant achievement in the realm of affordable electric vehicles. Each model is built on the MEB+ platform, allowing for a shared technological foundation while maintaining distinct identities and features tailored to their respective brands. Thomas Schäfer, Member of the Board at Volkswagen Group and CEO of the Volkswagen Brand, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating that it reflects a new strategy aimed at enhancing mobility within volume segments.
The production of these vehicles will take place in Spain, with the CUPRA Raval and Volkswagen ID. Polo being manufactured in Martorell, and the Škoda Epiq and Volkswagen ID. Cross produced in Pamplona. This strategic approach not only optimizes production efficiency but also strengthens the automotive industry's industrial base in the Iberian Peninsula.
A significant aspect of the EUCF is its modular design, with over 80% of components and technologies being identical across the models. This high level of standardization facilitates synergies in development, procurement, and production, ultimately lowering costs and enhancing efficiency. Despite this shared platform, each vehicle retains its unique design, driving experience, and brand character, ensuring that customers have a variety of options to choose from.
The initiative is part of a broader investment program, with SEAT & CUPRA, along with the Brand Group Core and PowerCo, committing a total of ten billion euros to bolster electric mobility in Spain. This investment includes the establishment of a battery cell factory in Sagunto and a 300 million euro allocation towards a battery system assembly plant in Martorell. Overall, SEAT & CUPRA has invested three billion euros in transitioning from traditional combustion engines to electric vehicles.
One year after their initial unveiling at the IAA Mobility 2025, where they were showcased as prototypes, the EUCF models are now ready for market launch. The enthusiastic response from consumers, reflected in the substantial number of pre-orders, underscores the appeal of these vehicles, which combine modern electric technology with competitive pricing and practical everyday functionality.
The CUPRA Raval, Volkswagen ID. Polo, Škoda Epiq, and Volkswagen ID. Cross are designed to democratize electric mobility, making advanced automotive technologies accessible to entry-level consumers. This commitment to affordable electric vehicles is essential as the automotive industry shifts towards more sustainable practices and solutions.
As the EUCF prepares for its market introduction, it sets a precedent for future electric vehicle initiatives, showcasing how collaboration among automotive brands can lead to innovative solutions that benefit consumers and the environment alike. The models are expected to play a crucial role in shaping the future landscape of electric mobility in Europe, particularly in the growing small car segment.
