Volkswagen Launches Pre-Sale of the All-New ID. Polo GTI: A New Era of Electric Driving

Volkswagen has initiated the pre-sale of its latest model, the ID. Polo GTI, on October 7, 2026, celebrating 50 years of the iconic GTI brand. This new electric vehicle (EV) embodies the spirit of its predecessors while ushering in an era of sustainable driving. The ID. Polo GTI is priced from €39,995 and is engineered to deliver an exhilarating driving experience akin to the original Golf GTI introduced in 1976.
The ID. Polo GTI boasts impressive specifications, featuring a power output of 166 kW (226 PS) and a maximum torque of 290 Nm, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.8 seconds. With a top speed of 190 km/h, the vehicle is designed for both performance and efficiency, utilizing an advanced front axle differential lock that enhances cornering capabilities.
Volkswagen has equipped the ID. Polo GTI with a unique “GTI” driving profile, which can be activated with a button on the sports steering wheel. This feature adjusts the electric drive, steering, and suspension settings to optimize performance. Accompanying this is a specially developed GTI sound that enhances the driving experience, along with a visually distinct cockpit that reflects the vehicle's sporty character.
In terms of design, the ID. Polo GTI retains classic GTI elements such as the signature honeycomb pattern, a red stripe on the front, and 19-inch light-alloy wheels. Inside, the sporty aesthetic continues with red contrasting seams and top sports seats that echo the traditional check pattern found in earlier GTI models.
The vehicle's power is sourced from a 52 kWh battery, providing a WLTP range of up to 431 km. The integrated navigation system features an e-route planner that helps drivers locate charging stations along their journey. The ID. Polo GTI supports rapid charging at DC stations with a capacity of up to 105 kW, enabling the battery to charge from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 24 minutes.
Volkswagen has also focused on enhancing interior space and practicality. The ID. Polo GTI offers increased passenger space compared to its combustion engine counterpart, with a luggage capacity that expands from 351 litres to 441 litres. When the rear seats are folded down, the total storage capacity reaches up to 1,240 litres. Additionally, an optional detachable tow bar allows for carrying e-bikes, with a nose weight of 75 kg.
For those seeking a more personalized driving experience, Volkswagen offers a range of optional features, including a panoramic glass sunroof, 12-way electrically adjustable front seats with a massage function, and a premium 425-watt sound system from Harman Kardon. The vehicle also includes the latest iteration of “Connected Travel Assist,” which aids in both lateral and longitudinal vehicle guidance and is capable of detecting red traffic lights to bring the vehicle to a stop.
The launch of the ID. Polo GTI signifies Volkswagen's commitment to merging performance with electric mobility, ensuring that the legacy of the GTI continues into the future. With its blend of advanced technology, performance features, and iconic design elements, the ID. Polo GTI is set to attract both long-time GTI enthusiasts and new customers looking for an electric vehicle that does not compromise on driving pleasure.
